Loretta & families,
We were very saddened to hear of Al's passing. Our deepest sympathy to all. Al was just an awesome guy. Having worked with him in his Cummine Construction days when I was at Alberta Power, he was the kindest person and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him. As well, the many years he gave to our community through the St. John's Ambulance Brigade, when my parents, Del & Shirley Brandvold, and myself were involved, will always be a special time to remember. When I would see him out and about, he always had time to stop & chat. Al was a great man. Rest in peace friend.

I'm sorry I can't be there with you to celebrate Al's life but I want to share some of my memories of him with you.
Al was an excellent dancer. I should know because I taught him. He did a lot of dancing with a lot of girls up until he met Loretta and then he only wanted to dance with her.
We always played together - we were real buddies - we were only two years apart in age. He was so sad when I went to school and he had to stay home because he wasn't old enough to go with me. When he did go to school the nuns all loved him because he was a good student and always did his best. I was so naughty but Al was so nice. He never once got the strap in school (but Ralph, Joe and I sure did!).
Al and I were always very connected. We didn't even need a phone to communicate! When he was in an accident one time I knew that he had hurt his arm because I dreamt it had happened. We had a special bond that can't be broken and we also had lots of laughs. Barney and I would play cards with Al and Loretta and we had so much fun seeing who could get away with cheating. Loretta and I always won so I guess we were better at it.
Al amazed us all with his strength and determination to get well again after his last horrific accident. We were all so proud and in awe of him. He was a wonderful little brother, a loving husband, and a devoted father. He loved life and he made all our lives better for being here. I'm going to miss our phone calls but I know we will see each other again soon enough.
God bless you and sending my love to all,
Carol
PS - Mom dictated the above message to me from her hospital bed this evening. She is slowly recovering and drawing strength from family. We all send our love to you - Uncle Al will be missed by so many!

I believe we were neighbours for 13 years. I grew to love you all like family. My heart hurts for you having lost such an amazing man. He will live forever in your hearts and will be greatly missed. Take care.
