Obituary of Klara Lider

BI O G R A P H Y LIDER: Klara Helene Lider passed away in the Jubilee Home, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Friday, October 27, 2006 at the age of 96 years. Klara is survived by: four children: Alvin Lider and his special friend Andrea Ketchum of Lloydminster; Loretta Ruud of Lloydminster; Gordon Lider and his wife Merry of Vernon, BC; Stanley Lider and his wife Cheryl of Grand Forks, BC; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives. The funeral service for Klara was conducted from the McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Nolan Astley officiating. A eulogy was given by Collette Millington. Special music “Amazing Grace,” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” was sung by Yvette Barnett. The hymn sung was “How Great Thou Art,” accompanied on the organ by Barbara Brind. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Mom’s life. Active pallbearers were: Rocky Ruud, Wayne Ruud, Kim Lider, Kevin Lider, Ryan Wright and Brandon Wright. Interment followed in the Lloydminster City Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., administered the funeral arrangements. Eulogy On June 1, 1910 in Oslo, Norway a little girl named Klara Helene Martinsen was born and that little girl would one day become my grandmother. In 1913, along with her parents and two year old sister, she immigrated to Canada. Grandma was the oldest of two sisters and two brothers. In 1927, Grandma married Eddie Lider and they settled on a homestead in the Norway Valley District. Later they moved to North Park and then to the Tulliby Lake area where they continued to farm. Grandma and Grandpa raised four children - Alvin, Loretta, Gordon and Stanley. In 1957, Grandma and Grandpa moved from their farm into Lloydminster where for the next twenty years, Grandma was employed at the Lloydminster Hospital. After her retirement, for something to do, she started working at the Meridian Booster. Her shift started at 4:00 A.M. and because she didn’t drive, she would take a taxi and walk home at the end of the day. Before she moved to the Pioneer Lodge in 1992, at the age of 82, she would often be seen walking back and forth from up town, which is a round trip of about 10 blocks. Grandma could always be found in her rocker crocheting beautiful tablecloths and doilies. She spent many hours crocheting and made sure all of her children and grandchildren received some of her works of art. Some of the work she did is displayed here today. Grandma always enjoyed company stopping by and you could be sure to see her looking out the window as you pulled into the driveway. She especially loved her 11 grandchildren, her 19 great grandchildren and her six great-great grandchildren and was always interested in what each and everyone was doing. If Grandma wasn’t at home in the evening, she would often be playing bingo or was always up for a game of cards. Sometimes making up the rules as she went along or conveniently forgetting the rules - whichever suited her best!!! Anytime anyone would ask her name - she would always reply - and that’s Klara with a “K.” She was still saying this up until a couple of months ago Grandma was very particular about her home, her hair and her appearance. Once they moved from the farm into Lloyd in 1957, she would have her hair done every week, a treat to herself for working so hard on the farm for so many years. Grandpa Lider passed away in 1968 and Grandma was later predeceased by her younger sisters and brothers. Over the years she also lost a son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Grandma remained in her home until moving into the Pioneer Lodge in 1992. In March of 2004, she was moved to the Jubilee where she resided until her passing. I will always remember Grandma for her quiet, no-nonsense presence and now more than ever will treasure my memories of her. Good-bye Grandma. Rest in Peace.
