Evert Richard Bloom was born December 22, 1922 on the family farm near Turtleford. At the young age of 15 after finishing grade 9, he began his farming career because of the passing of his father. His younger brother, Ejnar, later joined him and they ended up farming together for many years.

The Co-op, Credit Union, Vet Clinic, Ag Rep Office, and Rural Municipality of Mervin all benefited from his efforts. After starting as a councilor for his area, he spent 26 years serving as Reeve for the R.M. of Mervin. Evert's faith in God was reflected in all aspects of his life. He tirelessly gave of his time to his church and the Island Lake Bible Camp.
He was an excellent provider for his family and modeled kindness, patience, honesty and integrity.
