Ellen Irene Palen of Mervin, Saskatchewan passed away at Riverside Health Complex on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at the age of 91 years. Irene was born May 31, 1916 on the family farm south of Mervin to George and Isla Taylor. Irene is survived by three children: Bill Palen of Mervin, George (Anne) Palen of Paradise Hill, Dorothy (Robert) Burgess of Mervin, a daughter-in-law Roberta Palen of Saskatoon; grandchildren Neal (Jaclyn) Palen, Christa (Lonnie) Willes, Connie (Stewart) Walker, Bonnie (Richard) Adams, Daniel Burgess, Derek (Tracie) Burgess, Randy (Andrea) Burgess, Megan Palen, Craig Palen and Leah Palen; great grandchildren: Ethan and Sean Palen, Breanne Willes, Blair and Kurt Walker, Ashley, Amber and Richie Adams, Kelly and Justin Burgess, Kasey and Layna Burgess and Odin Palen, two sisters Marjorie Spencer of Mervin and Jean Jacques of Sherwood Park, Alberta; sister-in-law Jean Taylor of Turtleford and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her husband William; one son Robert; two brothers Alexander Taylor and William Taylor; two brothers-in-law James Spencer and Cyril Jacques; sister-in-law Edith Taylor, two nephews Bill Taylor and Roy Spencer.
The funeral service for Irene was conducted from the Mervin United Church, Mervin, Saskatchewan on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Canon Don Skinner and Pastor Pat Ribey officiating. Special music Whispering Hope was sung by Don Skinner.
The hymns sung were How Great Thou Art and We Shall Go Out With Hope Of Resurrection, accompanied on the organ by Noreen Williamson.
Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters: Connie Walker, Bonnie Adams, Christa Willes, Megan Palen, Leah Palen, Tracie Burgess, Andrea Burgess and Jaclyn Palen.
Active pallbearers were grandsons: Neal Palen, Craig Palen, Danny Burgess, Derek Burgess, Randy Burgess, Lonnie Willes, Stewart Walker and Richard Adams.
Interment followed in the Mervin cemetery.
McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Turtleford, Saskatchewan administered the funeral arrangements.
CARD OF THANKS
The family of the late Irene Palen wish a heartfelt thank you to family and friends for expressions of sympathy by donations received, cards, flowers and food brought to the house; for phone calls, visits and hugs. A special thank you to the staff at Riverside Health Complex who helped mom for the past four years. Thanks to Reverend Canon Don Skinner and Pastor Pat Ribey and Noreen Williamson for the music. Many thanks to all who played a part in the funeral service and to Dale McCaw. Thanks for the lunch.
