Eulogy
During her time with us Loret has been the bedrock, the pillar of strength for her family. She was a mother and wife in an incredible family. She truly loved Al and it showed whenever you saw them together. And you always saw them together. Whether it was a wedding, a reunion, sporting event, mass or simply shopping, where there was one, the other was surely nearby. And what was so remarkable was this bond lasted for 68 years on this earth and continues now in heaven. Wayne, Janice, Gaylene, and Todd: A mother who cared as much for her children, as Loret did for you is an absolutely wonderful thing. She wanted nothing but the best for you while at the same time she coaxed the best from you. By example and guidance, she taught you how to be the best person you could possibly be. And from what we all can see she succeeded, in spades.
She was the most loving grandmother to Lisa, Gwen, Leianne, Amy, Lynzie, Ian, Shawn, TJ and Brandon. You all have fond memories of Grandma, I'm sure. She loved you all and always wanted to know what you all were up to. She revelled in all your successes, and you made her so proud. And she loved to tease and joke with you and many of your fondest memories are probably associated with those times. You all have been overheard starting a conversation "Do you remember the time Grandma...." Whenever it was humanly possible you would find Grandpa and Grandma at your games, performances, graduations, and weddings.
As a great grandmother, she was the best. All these little ones we see here, and those that couldn't make it today, brought her incredible joy. She loved them all and seeing them or hearing about their exploits brought a giant smile to her beautiful face. Although some of you may not have the chance to know and remember her, rest assured she is looking after you.
Loretta was a daughter, sister, and aunt in a large family. Although distance separated you over the years, your family bonds were something to behold. And when we gathered as family it was amazing. Laughter and love filled the large venues that were necessary to hold all of us.
And lastly, she was a mother-in-law to 4 of us and sometimes a second mother when we needed it. We thank you for that, Mom.
Without doubt, each, and everyone of us here today have been prayed for by Loretta. She prayed for our safety, for us to be successful, for comfort when we were sad or troubled and for our happiness. And for those who have gone before, she prayed for their souls. One thing is certain: she’s praying for us all right now.
But Loret also had a mischievous side to her. She enjoyed pulling pranks or jokes on those she knew. Even in the past few weeks she was having a chuckle over a joke she was involved in about an upcoming family wedding. At family reunions she could be found wearing goofy glasses or clothing or stirring the pot just to get the party going.
Her spirit of giving of herself continued with volunteerism. She spent many years serving with the CWL. The number of people she helped over those years are only known to her. Again, so many lives touched by her spirit of hard work and giving.
To sum up Loret’s life in a few words, she was a caring, kind, and loving woman. In the last few days, we’ve heard from so many people that knew her and each one commented on how kind and thoughtful she was and how she will be missed. She loved her family and never denied them those things they needed. If there was an example of someone who lead a truly remarkable and model life in the service of the Lord and deserves a place in heaven it is Loretta.

To the Solie family, my condolences on the loss of your mother and grandmother. I remember fondly Mr. and Mrs. Solie at church and how welcoming and happy they were. I was also the recipient (and I still have it and now will cherish it all the more) of a beautiful crocheted afghan which was given to me by Brandon from his grandma when I taught him. Anyway, especially to Todd and TJ and Brandon (I have fond memories of the three of you), I offer my sincere sympathy on your loss.
I’m sure Mr. and Mrs. Solie are happy together again.
Sincerely,
Erdine Eaton
