Obituary of Marion Pitman

On February 11, 2023, at the age of 80 years, Marion Louise Pitman passed away peacefully in her home in Lloydminster, with her family and loyal dog, Rocky, at her side.  

Marion is survived by: her daughter, Patti (Doug) Fisher;  grandchildren, Brevyn (Morgan) Fisher and Shelbi (Jaxom) Willman; great grandchildren, Lex, Carter, John, and Lucy; stepsons, Jason and Quentin Fisher and their children, Ashley, Chyanne, Hailie, and Tighe Fisher; sisters, Linda, Connie and Marlene and her step daughters, Gladys and Vivian and their families.

Marion was predeceased by: her husband, Ray Pitman; parents, Gordon and Dorothy Morash; brother, Vaughn; sisters, Phyllis and Barbara and her step sons, Bub and Al. 

Marion will be missed for a million reasons, but most of all for her kind, gentle nature as a Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Friend. 

In honoring Marion's wishes, no service will be held. Instead, the family will celebrate her life in a private gathering at her home in Lloydminster in the summer.

Marion's family wishes to thank Dr. Stander, Lloydminster Home Care, and Co-op Pharmacy staff for supporting us while we kept Mom at home. We also thank McCaw Funeral Services for their kindness and compassion.

Eulogy~ My sweet Mama, Marion Pitman, was born on May 14th, 1942, in East Green Harbour, Nova Scotia, to Gordon and Dorothy (Hubley) Morash. She was the big sister to her six siblings. She grew up in the family home in East Green Harbour and attended school in Lockeport.

After high school she moved to Sable River to work as a Nursing Assistant in the nursing home. She loved her job and the folks she cared for. Her kindness and gentle soul touched those she cared for and their families.
In early 1960 my Mom married my Dad, Ray Pitman, and I arrived in late 1960. Marion continued to work at the nursing home for a few more years. Subsequently Marion and Ray opened a little country store in our yard, and called it Pitman's Mini Grocery. Marion took such pride in that store and made great friends in our small community. Her kindness never went unnoticed. Her customers loved her. She continued to run the store until 1992 when Ray passed away.

Following the passing of Ray, Marion spent a few more years in our family home, then in 1995 I convinced her to move to Alberta to live with my family. In 1996 we moved to Lloydminster, SK, where she lived with us, in our home until she passed on Feb. 11/23. That was a big move, and a bit of a culture shock for her. Her only complaint was the cold, cold winters. Otherwise she embraced the new chapter in her life and became a most positive influence in our home. She helped raise our children with an abundance of love and patience. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved and adored her, and she them.

My Mama never stopped moving! Gardening was her passion. She would garden from morning to night, taking only enough time for a smoke and a coffee occasionally. For reasons that are very clear...she HATED winter! Our yard was absolutely beautiful in the summer. She was so proud, and she was always the color of chocolate by the time fall was over. But her thumbs were green!!

Marion loved animals and was a loving Mom to many fur babies over the years, including Teddy, Bogly, and Rocky. Rocky was snuggled beside her, in her bed as she drew her last breaths. They were inseparable.

She loved country music and she had a little old radio that she would put on the deck every day when the weather was nice. She would enjoy her coffee and smoke while listening to Conway or George Jones.

My Mama added another dimension of love to our family. Our children and grandchildren will forever be better humans because of her. I am grateful every day.
