Dear Bob and family,
Today I was editing my memoir and, when I reached the part where I talk about Betty as a teacher, I had a feeling I should google her and so learned of her passing. I watched the service with tears streaming down my face. I don't know whether she ever really appreciated the positive impact she had on my young life. A couple of years ago, she sent me a writing I had done in grade 5. I'm sure other classmates for whom she had addresses received theirs also. I was astonished and so grateful. I sent her what I had completed of my writing up to that point and we corresponded for a bit. She sent me a lovely photo of her and you, Bob. Her letter, the photo and my 5th grade composition are in my memoir. So like Betty to keep these things and then reconnect with her former students. Those two years in her classroom were so special. I can see by the condolences, that others in my 5th and 6th grade class felt the same. Betty was the role model I needed at a time when I couldn't find one in my family. The community lost a wonderful spirit, but I know her presence will be with us always.

After a very contentious time in Kelly's life, I was honored to have Betty confide in me. She rejoiced greatly and exclaimed "she had her son back". I shared in her joy. Betty was an amazing, loving woman. We live forever, and I think she is living in a great place. So sorry for your losses this year. But you are all strong, but most importantly full of love for one another. My condolences, prayers and love to you all.

Linda and I were saddened to hear of Betty’s passing. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you Bob & family.
Betty was one of those special people who cross our path and leave such a lasting positive impact. She was my Grade
5 & 6 teacher, always so happy and positive to help with our learning. When we left Lashburn at the end of Grade 6
she put together a picture board of photos of all my classmates. This is one of my most prized possessions that I still
have to this day. I remember Betty’s VW bug and her courtship with Bob.
When we returned to Lashburn in 1972, Bob and Betty were such great neighbors in helping us starting farming and
repairing our old iron. Betty was there to help look after our children when Linda started teaching.
I am so grateful that Betty and I got to sit on the couch and reminisce about the good old days. We will miss her.
Betty flies with the angels. God Bless. Love and Hugs, Steve & Linda Richards.
