MAVES, Arthur Paul Art Maves was born July 8, 1919 in Hatton, Saskatchewan and passed away March 8, 2010 in Maidstone hospital, in his 91st year. He is survived by three sons and four daughters: Joyce Laufert of Maidstone, Glen (Vivian) Maves of Mont-Tremblant, Ruth (Gordon) Stogre of Mississauga, Elizabeth Maves of Maidstone, John (Donna) Maves of Camrose, Howard (Lois) Maves of Lloydminster, Patsy (Bruce) Beilman of Edmonton; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Marianne Laufert of Maidstone, Rachel (Marc) Fellahi, Kyle and Zoe of Montreal, Travis Maves, Austin, Autumn, Abigail and Chelsea of Maidstone, Sara Laufert and Shyla of Maidstone, Josiah (Stephanie) Maves of Spruce Grove, Aliya (Carlos) Scott of Dominican Republic, Natasha (Alexandre) Bedard, Antony, Mia and Isaac of Riviere-Rouge, Nadia Maves and Dustin Maves of Mont-Tremblant, Quintin Galbraith of Edmonton; one sister Marge Hartley of Edmonton; six sisters-in-law: and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was pre-deceased by his wife Gladys in 1988, his father Edward F. Maves in 1973, his mother Klotilda (Zehner) in 1940, brother Edward E. Maves in 1992, sister Esther Foster in 1994, granddaughter Amanda Maves in 1997, and son-in-law Rudi Laufert in 2003, and daughter-in-law Paulette (Gewelt) Maves in 1975. Art enjoyed farming, baseball, trapping and training horses, as well as travelling and playing cards, and auction sales. In July 1944, he married Gladys McAvena. He will be remembered by many for his smile and sense of humor, as well as his honest and trustworthy ways. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in October 1958 at Paynton, Saskatchewan, and looked forward to living on a paradise earth with no more sickness, sorrow and dying. Funeral services were held Thursday March 18 at 2 pm, Maidstone Legion Hall, with a talk by Hank Crichton. Pallbearers were Gordon Petit, David Meynberg, Jerry Wilkins, Ted Bamford, Frank Schmitt, and John Davies. Burial was at Maidstone Cemetery, with McCaw Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. The family of Art Maves would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Maidstone Hospital and all our friends, neighbors and relatives for your help and your kindness in the past few months. It was very much appreciated. Donations in memory of Arthur may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
