Dear Erdine, Blake, John, Jackson and Madeleine,
I was sitting here thinking of words to write to express my thoughts to you all in such a way to do justice to the void now left with the loss of Marie. As I watched the service and heard the accounts of so many wonderful stories, that at the young age of 38, she was able to accomplish so many extraordinary adventures. Marie took what this world had to offer, through pain and sheer determination, and went for it. She was a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, went to University, traveled extensively, went to nursing school and had so many other achievements, it saddened me that I hadn't known Marie better. I think Marie could enrich ones life with just a story or two. There are no words to console your loss, but you all should be proud in the way you honored Marie as she would be with all of you. My thoughts and heartfelt wishes to all of you.

We were not very close friends but I just wanted to say I am sorry for your loss to her family. Especially her dear young daughter. I am a mother too to a young boy now. Dear Erdine, i watched the memorial for Marie and found it sad but also inspiring and remembered aunt Agnes and my mother Margaret telling me about Maries christening. My mother was full of thrilling praise for the beautiful child which was Marie plus honored to be included..
While i was interested and admired her adventures in the world i did give a heartfelt Ahhhhhh when i heard she was home and was pleased to hear about the wee babe. I had hoped there would be a chance in the future to meet Marie again. i also want to have a chance once covid has retreated to meet with you again Erdine and give you a wonderful hug.
I also remembered how my cousin Jack would gently tease Marie as he did others. He, Jack had a way with people that was endearing. and so did Marie.

Marie and I lived together for a year during undergrad. We've kept in touch and now have kids the same age. I'm in shock as are the rest of us. Marie was full of energy - dancing, rowing and school, and found enough energy to go to far away places afterwards. Finding Jackson meant a lot to her as did miss Madeleine. I will miss her.

I met Marie through the Nursing Program at MacEwan and my life was touched immeasurably by her magnificent soul. It is unbelievable to know that we will not be able to share any more bibimbap dinner parties, and I will be unable to try her other famous dishes. I love Marie so much, as a sister, mentor and friend. Her impassioned personality, is something that will resonate with me until we meet again.
Sending all of the love that I can muster to the dearest Madeleine (spelled the French way because that was important to Marie) and any other aching heart that needs it.

I met Marie when we both lived in Korea many years ago. She was a bright spot and a wonderful, adventurous soul. She’s a person I enjoyed keeping in touch with and I loved watching her as a mother. Even though we haven’t physically seen each other in years I’m so sad to hear of her passing. She will be greatly missed. Greatly.

It’s been 10 years since I’ve seen Marie, when she visited Toronto. I’ve missed her, and now I really miss her in a painful way, so I can’t even imagine how her family and closest friends must be hurting. Marie was one of the smartest and most adventurous people I’ve ever known.
She had really brave politics and I admired her courage in stating and defending them in as kind and fair a way as was possible. We were a debate pair in high school and she had a brilliant, creative mind.
I have loved hearing her stories about Madeleine the last five years and it is clear that Madeleine was her whole world, that she lived for her.
Marie was a bright, bright light and a very special person. I’ve been devastated to realize just how much she meant to me, despite not being very close over the past decades. She’s left an incredible impact. I sure wish I could tell her how much I valued our friendship, how much I admired her courage and openness to experience, and how happy I was to see her and Jackson find love and do a clearly wonderful job of raising a strong, bright kid.
I don’t have a specific memory to share, but if I could find it I’d love to watch again the video of a “singing detention” that she made kids do in one of her classes. Wacky and wonderful. She was a great teacher.
My deepest condolences to you Jackson and Madeleine, Blake, Erdine, John and all your families, and to all her many friends. We are holding you in our hearts and want to support you in any way we can.

Sending my deepest sympathies to the whole family. I don’t have any memories to share about Marie but do remember when her mom was teaching her grade one class. She was pregnant with you, I think it was you or possibly Blake but a classroom of 6 year olds got on her hormonal nerves and she through the chalk brush across the room and left crying.
