EULOGY
It is not easy to let someone go that filled our lives so completely. It is a great honour to give this day to our mother. We are not here to mourn her death but to celebrate her life she so easily cherished.
Amy Isobel McEwen (nee Culham) was born in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan on December 19, 1920 to Dr. Walter Culham and Lisa Jane Culham (nee Upshall). She was the only daughter with three brothers: Roland, Ern and Stewart.
Mom took her schooling in the Quill Lake area, but took her 11 and 12 by correspondence. Mom had the chance to travel after school with dad's sister Arlene. They traveled to Ontario where mom was a telephone operator. She often told us how the switchboard would light up like a Christmas tree. After the war mom returned to Saskatoon where she worked in the San. She was always very proud of all the friends she met.
Mom met dad in 1936 when he and his family moved to Quill Lake. When mom came back to Quill Lake they started courting and were married in 1949.
Mom and dad were fortunate to celebrate 61 years together on the 19th of April, 2010. Out of their marriage they had six kids, fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Mom was very proud of all she left behind.
Mom faced two major hardships in her life. The loss of her own mother at 8 years old, and then her own daughter at 2 years old. But our mother was a very strong woman, so very full of faith and I believe it made her the beautiful person she was. Mom never believed in judging anyone. If you couldn't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Mom was also a good cook and loved to garden.
Mom's life with dad was all it could be, and she was very proud of the way he provided for us all.
Mom leaves behind her husband Bob of 61 years, daughters: Sharon (Dan), Colleen (John), Heather (Bob), Bob (Dale), Barry (Cindy); fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; one brother Roland and two sisters-in-law: Kay and Dolly and many nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was predeceased by her mom and dad Walter and Jane Culham; two brothers: Ern and Stewart, one infant daughter Sandra, four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
Mom your life was very complete in all you did which shows in all of us who are left behind. Enjoy your time with Sandra again, she needs you now. Go in God my angel of God.
Bob, Colleen, Sharon, Bobby, Heather, Barry and families
