Dear Amanda, Jason, Andrew and Jonathan ❤️
We were so sad to hear the news of Dale. Knowing you as our neighbors, when your boys were just little, and living just a few doors down from us, was such a joy. And of course, not only having the cutest three boys on the “block”, they were also the sweetest boys on the “block”❣️
Dale was such a handsome, humble, kind, and just one of the nicest people to know. When I think of him, it is his warm and friendly smile that immediately comes to mind. Dale’s “graduation” service was heartwarming to watch. Made me cry a lot, especially sharing all that did about Dale. It was just beautiful, Amanda. Thank you for that! What an incredible man he was and know he was so proud of his family. We are sending this with our deepest sympathy, along with love and huge hugs! ❤️ Marlene & Jerry

Dear Block Family
I knew Dale from church and high school in Carman. I have been thinking of Dale lately and I was wondering where he was and what he has been up to over the past 40 years. I last saw Dale at WBC when we played tennis and went to a banquet together. We both didn't know what to do with our lives after high school and so Dale went to Norway and I travelled Europe with 2 other friends. I was totally shocked when we met at L'Abri, Switzerland, both making the life-changing decision to follow Jesus and staying a while to study there. It was a great pleasure to attend his memorial service and to hear how he spend the last 40 years! I was delighted to hear about his love for Jesus which showed up in his love for people and his serving attitude! Wonderful tribute!
Blessing to you as his family, as you carry on in this life without him. He will be greatly missed and may you cherish these memories and run this race with peace and joy!
Blessings, Bev Jakelski (Magnusson)

To Amanda, Jason Andrew and Jonathon-
As Amanda’s friend from England, I was honoured to be Bridesmaid at their wedding back in 1987! When Dale and Amanda met me at the airport I immediately saw the love in Dale’s eyes and knew he was the right man, and would stand by her . He had a definite twinkle in his eye and I remember his sense of humour and welcoming smile.
I watched every minute of the wonderful tribute to Dale; sometimes with laughter and sometimes with tears, but mainly with thankfulness- that he has ‘graduated ‘ to heaven, and for the amazing 33 years you spent as a family.
Sending my love to a very dear friend.

Dear Amanda,
What a blessed memorial service. Among the scores of my nieces and nephews Dale was special. Of course this may relate to the special role his father played in my life as my brother. But we were especially privileged to be teaching at WBC when he was there and to have him as my student. We loved having him and his college friends into our little home in Steinbach. He has always been one of the most sensitive people I have known. And the way he and you responded to his ALS has been an inspiration to us and hundreds of others. I treasure the time I had with you and him a little more than a year ago in Calgary. What a gift that visit was. Thank you for your magnificent and loving care for our nephew. Ellen and I pray that Psalm 23 will bring you comfort in these days. The Lord walks with us through these valleys, and now Dale is living in the house of the Lord and walking with him forever. Soon we will be there with him. Thanks be to God.
With love and prayers,

I had previously shared a memory but it did not enough justice to Dale. I knew his faith was strong, and he used that faith, but not in an intimidating way. Dale was a critical thinker and really put a great deal of effort into having the best discussion possible, and that he was always committed to his perspective. He was a just human, his desire to help others was at the top of his list, how can we possibly do better, how can we possibly be more support, more caring, less critical of other. I loved his sense of humour. dry, purposeful, appropriate, well times. His excitement about new ideas and how they can benefit others. His level of mercy for others, his acceptance of others, being gay i never felt diminished by Dale, I was just David and that counted for so much, i knew he knew, he knew I knew he knew, but in the end we were just two men who wanted to our best for our communities and for children and family. I knew his faith was strong and he walked with his god through his life and especially towards the end. I was blessed to have a dinner with him a year ago. I was quite nervous not knowing how ALS had advanced He and Amanda put me at ease and we spent the time just catching up. His sense of humour was there, and i am sure part of it was for me. By the end of dinner, he was tired but i could have gone on for hours. I will take that time and place it in a special place. I have thought often how he was doing, knowing he was planning for his time to meet his god, on is terms. I learned much from him. I appreciate the time i had with him. Rest in Peace

I have fond memories of time spent with the Block family. Dale's passing is like saying 'see you later' to a close family friend. Dale's humor, keen interest in people whom he met and willingness to step out and try new challenges to make a difference in the world created opportunities for him to meet this goal.
He has been a encourager to many people, and I, for one, will miss his ready smile and his deep and challenging questions.

I am very saddened to hear of Dale's passing. My condolences to all of his family and friends. I have not seen Dale since our school days in Carman but I have lots of fond memories of him. Always kind, always gentle and always a friendly smile on his face. One story I can share was when we were in a class one day, in grade 11 or 12, and he thought it would be funny to unplug the projector that the teacher was playing a reel movie on as the plug was right by his feet. He thought it would be funny to see the teacher's (Ace Peterson) response when it just stopped. But it did not just stop - it kept rolling and started spewing film every where! It was very uncharacteristic of Dale to be a trouble maker and I will always remember the look on his face when he realized that he had miscalculated the outcome of his actions! It still brings a smile to my face 40 plus years later. Rest in peace Dale.

It was a privilege and a joy to know Dale, beloved husband of our niece, Amanda. Jennie and I always looked forward to meeting this lovely and loving couple. It's hard to characterise Dale in just a few words as he was man of integrity and sincerity with a real interest in so many topics. We respected that and enjoyed his company immensely. We also enjoyed his lively sense of humour and had many a discussion about the absurdity of changing the clocks, including the rearrangement of Stonehenge twice a year. It was even mentioned when we spoke only a few weeks ago via Face Time. A HUGE THANK YOU Dale for making us so welcome to join you on your journey. We are sad that Dale is no longer with us. And we appreciate so much how we have been able to connect more closely with you, especially over these last years - through times at Southridge, your wonderful visit with us in Cambodia, and through our last visits with you in Lloydminster. Our last memory of being with Dale is precious and sweet as we fellowshipped with you and celebrated our Lord together. We believe Dale continues to have many celebrations of Him, even right now. We bless you all, and trust that He will be known to you as Immanuel as you grieve together. We look forward to being able to continue to speak encouragement and strength into each other's lives - something Dale was so skilled at - in the days ahead.
We honour your faith, hope and love with which you have encouraged us, and which we see in you and for one another in your family.

What a wonderful picture of Dale. That smile represents him in so many of my memories. I can just picture him with that expression at the front of dining hall at Southridge Camp. What I hold most dear is exactly what is described in terms of his “:ability to bring others into deep conversation.” He was curious about people, cared about what interested them and what their perspectives were. My experience of those conversations from a youth in the church, and from any opportunity I had to spend with Dale and Amanda as an adult, was a man of generous spirit, a great laugh, kind, easy to talk to, and non-judgmental. I always left conversations with him feeling heard, feeling inspired, and always with a few deep thoughts to chew on. What a gift to have known him. My deepest love and condolences to Amanda and his whole family.

Our hearts are heavy for all of you. I did not know Dale very well, but I am certain that his spirit lives in all the boys.....so kind, so selfless, and so giving. May you all bring comfort to each other in this difficult time.
Thinking and praying for you all,

Our condolences go out to Amanda and family in the passing of Dale. He was courageous in his defiance of all the roadblocks he encountered in dealing with ALS. His smile and determination radiated over anyone who was lucky enough to be in his company, whether at home or at a hockey game, he never wavered. Dale was an inspiration to all of us to live life to the fullest. We’ll miss you Dale.

Dale was a funny, charismatic, thoughtful, personable guy who touched the lives of so many in his professional life as well as personal life. He was the guy in a stressful meeting who would lean over and whisper something in your ear that made you want to laugh out loud and remember not to take life too seriously. That being said he knew when things were serious and was a great support when he took the lead. I not only was fortunate enough to have met and worked with Dale, I was fortunate enough to hear about some of his antics from his brother. He lived life to the fullest. Dale was one of the good guys and will be missed by so many. Gone from our sight, but forever in our hearts and memories. My thoughts are with his family and all of those whose lives he touched.

Our condolences to you, Amanda and your family. Dale was an amazing man and a huge part of my life growing up. He was my first youth pastor and both of you helped guide me in my journey with Jesus. I will always remember the times spent with both of you and the hours spent babysitting your wonderful boys. Sending hugs and prayers to you.

So many fond memories of Dale and his family in Lloydminster whether in the community, church or schools. He was a proud husband and father. He always presented a keen interest in others and their lives. I loved his sense of humour and positive way of looking at a situation. I always found Dale and Amanda very approachable and took the time to show a genuine curiosity in the people and world around them. Your journey through this past three and a half years of battling ALS has been a true witness to the rest of us. Cherish those memories!

I worked with Dale when I was in the East Central Region. I always enjoyed conversations with Dale. He was thoughtful, used great reasoning skills, never got overly excited and his dry humour. He was a hard worker on behalf of children and families and I admired that dedication. I remember he had the respect of his staff and other community members. It was a real pleasure to have worked with him and to call him my colleague. I admired his strength and how he dealt with his illness and the support he had from family and friends. My sympathies to his family and friends, especially his wife and children and his brothers. Rest In Peace Dale.
