Janet Marjorie was born Feb. 8, 1919 to Frank W and Hyacinth Wood in the Lloydminster hospital. She was the third child, a third daughter. The first daughter, Joan had died of spinal meningitis at two years old and the second daughter, Ruth (known as Darla) had been born in England and was raised by her spinster, maternal aunts there. This meant Janet was the oldest child to be raised on the pioneer, prairie farm, named Colgaith Farm by the family. It was located on Big Gully Lake. Janet became the oldest of seven siblings raised on the farm. Janet attended Broughton School with her sisters Peggy and Gerry. Later her four brothers also attended. High school was done by correspondence. As a child, Janet attended St. Peter's Church and after marriage she was very faithful in attending St. John's Anglican Church. She was involved in the WA, Mother's Union, J A's and taught Sunday School as well World War II started when Janet was 20, so she joined the navy, WRENS. Her time of service took her out to Nova Scotia on the east coast and later to Victoria on the west coast. She enjoyed work in the Prince Albert sanitorium. After that, she studied to become a lab and x-ray technician. Janet met and married a local butcher/ meatcutter named Enoch Salt. They were married at St. Peter's Church, Stoney Creek, July 19, 1950. Janet and Knocky, lived on a small 4 acre plot in the house that Knocky had grown up in, a mile and a half south of town on Highway 17. Knocky worked in the meat market for his cousin Johnny Salt. Janet stayed home to raise children. Henry Samuel was born in 1952, Melita May Jean 1953, Josephine Cynthia, 1954, Patricia Janet, 1956 and Daisy Winnifred Elsie in 1963. As the children got older, she went back to work. First she worked on the"pink" staff doing Nursing aid work at the Auxiliary Hospital. Then, she worked again for a time as a lab and x-ray technician at the clinic beside the Lloydminster Co-op. Janet had a strong personal faith in God. This was shown in many ways, particularly by her care of her family and those in need. She regularly visited the hospital, care homes and shut-ins and took them some of her flowers or raspberry preserves. She had a wonderful memory for birthdays and sent cards and greetings to extended family and friends. She was kind and giving, donating to many charities and causes. Janet was a woman of faith in action. In the later years, Janet and Knocky moved into town. She stayed there until after Knocky passed away on Aug. 16, 1999. Later Janet moved to the Pioneer Lodge and from there to the Dr. Cooke Extended Care. Even as her memory began to fade she kept her happy, thankful, positive attitude. The Dr. Cooke staff often commented on how they enjoyed her sense of humour and appreciative attitude. On Wednesday, May 26 Janet felt unwell and passed away peacefully the next morning at the age of 91.
