Obituary of Merilynn Kekula

Please share a memory of Merilynn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

MeriLYNN Verla Madeline Kekula (nee Proctor) passed peacefully with family at her side on July 13, 2020 at the age of 77. Connection with family and friends was the fabric of her life.

Lynn was survived by her loving husband Rudy, five children and ten grandchildren. Lynn’s CHILDREN include: REGAN, SHANNON & Rayna, JODIE (Byron), Kyle, Erik & Aanika, NOELLE (Tony), Madison & Taya and SUSAN, Harrison, Samantha, Michaela & Kiara. Lynn is also survived by her best friend and brother Dwayne, great nieces JUSTINA (Mark), William & Bradley and MERRY (Drew), Jackson & Ava.

Lynn lived life simply, cherishing relationships with her close friends and family. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and meaningful way. She provided a listening ear, a special touch and was a creative inspiration. Her passion for crafting left a lasting legacy that will be remembered when hanging stockings and wreaths, washing dishes with a hand knit cloth, reaching for a sweater, pair of gloves or scarf, placing an embroidered tablecloth for a family supper or curling up your toes on a latched hook rug.

Lynn was born in Macklin, SK and raised in Marsden, SK, Brandon & Shilo, MB. She received post-secondary education with the Royal Canadian Air Force in eastern Canada and went to secretarial college in Edmonton. She raised her family in Marsden and retired from Wilford Agencies in Lloydminster to become a full-time grandmother, which she called the best job ever! Some of her favourite travel experiences included: Hawaii, Florida, The Great Lakes area and the The Maritimes, but closest to her heart were family visits to see the new babies and to share in her grandchildren’s milestones where she showered them with her love and wet, smoochy kisses.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster Home Care Services and in particular RN Michelle Turgeon for their support and compassionate care.

In respect for everyone’s wellness*, a small, private family gathering will be held this summer in Lloydminster. Extended family and friends will be invited to join remotely**

*Provincial regulations prevent us from holding a large gathering.

** Extended family & friends will be able to attend via Zoom or another platform. More information will be posted here as soon as this is organized.

Donations in memory of Lynn can be made to an Education Fund for her grandchildren (cheques made payable to Kyle Mitchell or e-transferred to lynniesgrandbabies@gmail.com).
