Obituary of Ron Tulloch

Ronald "Ron" George Tulloch formerly of Marwayne, Alberta passed away peacefully in Camrose, Alberta on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the age of 85 years.

Ron is survived by: his son, Arnold Tulloch; step children, Tammy (Owen) Conlon, Henry (Cindy) Keichinger and Sherry Keichinger; brother, Bob (Bev) Finlay of Calgary, AB; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ron is predeceased by: his wife, Margaret Tulloch; parents, Jim and Margie Tulloch; brother, Bill Finlay; and sister, Connie Jones.

The Graveside Service for Ron will be conducted from the Marwayne Cemetery, Marwayne, Alberta on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM.

Eulogy for Ron Tulloch

Ron was born in Saskatoon Sk. January 10, 1935.  He had three siblings, two brothers, Bill and Bob, and one sister, Connie.

After the death of his fathe,r Ron’s mother remarried Jim Tulloch and they moved to Jim’s family farm in Eckville, Alberta, Im sure  that’s where he got his first taste for grass cutting.

Ron often spoke of those times and had fond memories of the years there. Ron played many years of hockey as a young fellow continuing playing as an adult.

Ron spent much of his younger years in the Red Deer area before settling in the Rocky Mountain House.

He married Marlene and they had one son together, Arnold.  A number of  years later they were divorced.

Ron was one of the 100 paddlers on the Centennial Voyageur boat trip re-enactment from Rocky Mountain House to Montreal, for the 1967 Centennial. He loved to show photos and talk about the experience.

Ron spent many years working on the drilling rigs in the mountain areas, reaching the position of tool push.  He earned many safety awards and was very proud of that.

Ron met Marty while she was a camp cook in the Nordegg area and instantly fell in love.

They first moved to the Kitscoty area to be closer to Marty’s children and in 1977 they purchased a property in the Marwayne area named it Stony Creek Stables.

They worked tirelessly to transform the old farm yard into a park like setting. It was their pride and joy, he also spent many hours helping Marti with the horses, cattle and other critters.

Ron and Marti finally tied the knot on May 19, 1995

Ron eventually retired from rig work and went into carpentry he worked at a lumber yard as well as a cabinet company before starting his own business, Ron’s Handyman Service.  He did all kinds of renovations but was exceptionally good at tile work. He did work on all of our kids’ houses.

Ron gave Owen an old tile saw and with some encouragement, he got Owen and Tammy started in tiling projects, on their own property.

Ron started a die cast car and truck collection, which was very large in size; he built a hobby shop/ man cave to display his collection which was quite impressive.  Nothing made him happier than to show visitors his collection and regale you with stories to go along with each of them.

Ron had the “gift of gab”. He had stories about all sorts of things, his rig life, farm life, travels, and adventures.  They were always interesting.

Ron loved watch sports especially hockey, Tammy remembers getting Ron and her each a bowl of ice cream and sitting down to watch the game, we used to go through a gallon of ice cream a week, he taught me a lot about hockey and oil rigging , she says.

When Marty became ill, Ron retired from his business to become her full-time care giver, which he lovingly did until her passing.

At this time, he moved to Lloydminster into a condo. He enjoyed the coffee clutches and touring the area, shopping and checking out crops, just decompression from the years of caring for Marty.

In 2016, Ron fell and fractured his back.  The injury put him in a wheelchair, and so he moved to Bethany Meadows Senior home in Camrose, where he could be close to Tammy and family.

He always had a drawer full of cheesies, which he won at bingo, we often wondered if anybody else ever got a chance to win.

The staff at Bethany remembers Ron as always having a smile and a sunny nature, as well as his love for raiding the pantry of cookies.

The last few months were very hard on Ron as he was a very social person and loved seeing people’s smiles, we had just gotten back to outside visits, but it was apparent how the lack of contact with family and smiles had affected him.

Ron passed away peaceful on July 3rd 2020 at Bethany Meadows,  Camrose, Alberta.

We will miss him dearly.
