Like any who were a part of her life, I will miss her and wished I could have gotten to know her better.
I remember the first time I saw her again, after nearly twenty years. We "ran" to meet each other with the same warm hugs I remembered as a child with her in the church. Every time we Meri-dian Ukuleles played at Heartstone, her light and love shone brightly across the room and over shared tea afterwards.
For now, I play the bells she once played in the Celebration Ringers. The true strength of this gal is apparent every time I lift those heavy things!
Thank you for sharing the stories and laughter and tears.
Peace, healing and love in your time of sorrow.

My tribute to my aunt Kay (by her nephew Brian Brownridge)
Kay was my Dad’s younger sister, and she was like a second mom to me ever summer when I was in my early teens.
I was born and raised in Calgary, but used to spend my summers at Mervin with Kay and Keith, and I have very fond memories of those times.
Both Kay and Keith were so patient and tolerant with a young boy who was discovering that he he knew more than any adult, and I’m sure there were times when they wanted to send me back home on the next bus.
I spent a lot of time on the farm that Keith and his brother Jack and sister Florence, and their dad Harry Lake had west of Mervin, now known as the Clover Lake Farm where Harry and Jean currently live.
Learning to drive the tractor and helping put up hay developed my self esteem, because I felt like I was making a contribution and my my many labour’s were appreciated.
I especially remember how Kay and Florence would bring us ‘men’ a ‘hot snack’ out in the fields to keep us going. No snack I tell you, to me it was like a full meal.
Kay, like your mom and my grandmother, Vivian, I will always admire your calm and measured approach to life. And especially in this time of social unrest and uncertainty, we can reflect on what an inspiration you were to all who knew you.
Love from your nephew,
Brian Brownridge

I’m sorry to hear of Kay’s passing. She really did leave a legacy as the best librarian a school could have. I remember one year I didn’t want to participate in track and field so I was told I could work in the library instead. Well, I didn’t make that mistake again. In her very kind way, Kay made me work every minute of the day. I had no idea there was that much to do in a library. The next year I was back out at the track.
To the Lake families I send my condolences.
She was a great lady!

Dear Harry, Roy and your families...
The first time I met you mother was at a shower to celebrate her marriage to my cousin Keith. I don't actually remember what she was wearing but remember thinking that she was "SO GLAMOUROUS".
This picture of the three of us was taken that evening (me on the left).
Just after that, our family moved to Alberta but we came back to visit regularly.
Over the years, I got to know her better and she became an inspiration to me.
When I was finishing my BA, I came for a visit. I was telling her that I didn't know what to do next. She said emphatically in that positive way she had "You should go to Library School. You can do it! You would be a good librarian."
I took had advice, and after 40 years in pubic libraries I never regretted my decision. She was a great mentor to me.
I wish I could be with you today. I will be there in spirit.
Love
Your Cousin

To All The Lake Families...
Mrs. Lake was our Librarian at the Comp. I was one of the ones that she "caught" sneaking through the Library, along with most of the other kids!!! She was so kind to her students. In more recent years, I have had the pleasure of many visits, usually at Tims. We would talk about the old school days, her family, her church activities and whatever inspirational tidbits she had to offer -- always with a smile, and always so kind!! You had the BEST mom and grandma!! I will miss seeing your mom around and I will miss our chats. Our condolences to all and passing on hugs as well. She touched many and will never be forgotten!!

Kay was a wonderful, encouraging lady always interested in how our family and church were doing. Before moving, Kay lived opposite the church and was a great neighbour. She always attended the services in Hemstock on a Sunday and we always enjoyed ministering to her. I believed she loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and will now be in His glorious presence.

To the Lake family, my sincere sympathy on the passing of such a beautiful person. My husband Jack just loved her and he introduced me to her and I easily could see what he loved about her. She was the school librarian when Jack was in high school and he wasn’t too fond of reading books. When assigned a book report, he would go to his favourite Mrs. Lake and ask her what was a good book and she would show him a good book and proceed to tell him what it was all about and then he would write his book report from her summary of it. He told that story more than once and always very fondly. She always took the time to ask how he was doing and to stop and visit whenever she ran into him (us). He thought she was absolutely the best. So if we could all imitate her just a little bit, our world would surely be a better place. Rest In Peace, my dear lady.

Kay was the first person I met at church when I moved to Lloydminster back in the 80's. She invited me to dinner after church and we became good friends immediately. Kay was the reason I became as involved as I did at the church. Her thoughtfulness was amazing. I loved going to visit Kay and Keith. They both helped with my wedding in 1993. I so enjoyed coming to Lloydminster to visit, after I moved away. Kay always welcomed me into her home. She even came to visit me once with Gladys J., after my first son was born. That was so special. She was always so proud of her family, especially her grandchildren. She talked fondly about them whenever I visited. I will always remember Kay fondly and will miss her dearly. She was truly one of Life's Blessings. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Please know that I share in your grief for a wonderful lady and have been honored to have known Kay and Keith and family.
Back in the high school Kay, the Librarian allowed a select few library helpers to meet in the library over the noon-hour. My love of libraries, books, volunteering began and was encouraged by Kay and others which led me to pursue training as a Library Technician. I have and will always cherish my memories of 14 years working with Kay at the Lloydminster Comprehensive High School Library
When Kay and Keith made a decision to move, my first husband, John Johnson and I purchased their home behind the Pioneer Lodge on 51 Street. Unfortunately John passed a couple of years later but my daughter Adele and I lived and enjoyed our first home for 10 years.
Recently I had the pleasure again of visiting with Kay when bringing materials from the public library to residents at the Hearthstone. When time would allow we spoke and shared stories of working together.
I teased her because she continued to introduce me by my married name of Johnson, long after I was married to Gary Phillips. She used to say "I keep forgetting ..."
Kay said she used her initials "K and L", when leaving home or when parking her vehicle to remind herself of "keys and lights" ... to this day I use her same initials to remind myself .... and this sentiment will be a reminder always ...
She will be surely missed by many .... sending thoughts, prayers and virtual hugs to all ...
As ever and always Sherlane (Johnson) Phillips and family
