Obituary of Andrew Christie

Please share a memory of Andrew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Andrew Christie passed away at the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre in Lloydminster, Alberta on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the age of 89 years.

Born in 1930 to Alfred and Grace Christie in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Andy grew up on a farm east of North Battleford, attending small country schools until he graduated to high school in North Battleford. Grade 10 was as far as he was willing to go, and back home he went to work on the farm.

At the age of 18, he decided to make out on his own and found a job at the freight yard for Canadian National Railways. He remained there for the next 28 years, working his way up even buying an old typewriter and learning how to type to get into the office. He continued to move up the ladder and eventually became the terminal traffic manager. While he worked at CN, he took over the family farm and farmed the one quarter that was left and helped neighbours on their farms at the same time.

He met Sheila and they were married in 1955. He built the family home and they started their family in 1958 when Kevin was born; Mike followed in 1960 and Andrea in 1964. They lived in North Battleford until 1978 when he and Sheila moved to Lloydminster and Andy took a job with Husky Oil where he worked for 11 years before retiring. After Husky he kept busy with lots of part time jobs… cutting grass at the golf course and working in the pro shop, delivering papers for the Booster, and moving cars for some of the dealerships in Lloyd, to name a few.

When he wasn’t busy working for others, he was busy making furniture in his shop for his family and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and loved sports; he golfed when ever he found time to do it. His favorite place was the cabin at the lake, and he shared it with family and friends whenever they could make it. We will all miss his presence there!

As per Andrew's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Andrew may be made to LRHF- Lloydminster Hospital Palliative Care or LRHF- Dr. Cooke Patient Comfort Fund.
