I met Martin when I was a recruit posted to Fort Qu’Appelle, Sakatchewan in 1988. Martin was one of the senior Constables in the Detachment. He was sharp, funny and an excellent copper. I was often invited to share dinner at his house with his wife, Marie and Pam and David on a number of occasions. He and Marie were always warm and friendly and kind. As a new member and a single young man the kindness was really meaningful and a marker of Martin’s personality. Martin tried to convince me to join the dive team till I saw a winter recovery dive! He was promoted to Corporal and left for Val Marie and that is the last we crossed paths. Marie, Pam wnd David and your families please accept my condolences. Martin was one of the good ones!

Marie, Pam, David and families: It has been a long time
since I've seen you, July 1990 when Albert, Anne, Julie and I stopped at your place on our trip to Ottawa to see Dan, Sharon and family. It is difficult to find words at this time, but rest assured that for every loss there is a gain. Death is always a difficult time but for sure there will be another bright star above to light the way for us left here.
Sincere sympathy to all;
Regards,
bob

Martin and I met in 1976, both in the Mounties in Lloydminster, me fresh from Loon Lake and he from the Olympics. Marie came into his life and he was to call Saskatchewan home forevermore. Our oldest kids were born the same month in Lloydminster. We went our separate ways in 1980 and were separated by several provinces. Hearing from our old boss about Martin's death really drives home the reality that if you think you should reach out to old friends to say hello, don't put it off. You never know if you will get another opportunity. Marie, Donna and I send our sincerest condolences. Martin was a true friend to all who knew him. Chuck and Donna

Marie ,Pam and David hard to find words of comfort at this time. Always enjoyed my time with Martin be it policing, police diving ,teaching the PROS rollout in the RCMP, and virtual flying one of his favourite pass times. Also our friendship. Knowing Martin Over the years he always a true friend and was only, an email, chat, or phone call away and was always there to listen and help out anyway he could. When he took on something he always gave it his 110%. Thanks Martin for being you and although gone never forgotten many memories.

Martin & I shared a special bond having served as law enforcement officers, Martin with the RCMP, myself with a local PD in California. We exchanged patches as as brother officers often do and I will always treasure them. I never met Martin in person, only spoke with him through communications we used while in virtual flight over the internet. I will truly miss my friend. My deepest condolences to Marie and the family.

In 1975 I had the great pleasure of meeting Martin or as he was always called then “Schultz”. during our RCMP training at “Depot” in Regina. He was a 19 year old kid who had a love of life and a dream of serving Canada. As troop-mates, he, Glenn Syme and I became an inseparable trio. Over the next year together we all served in Regina and then in Montreal. Unfortunately, we later became separated by several provinces and our lives took us in separate directions. Marie, Valda, (my wife) and Glenn’s wife Alison were the glue that kept us together for the past 41 years. In 2008 we all agreed to have a reunion in Banff. Other then a having a little less hair, Martin had not changed one little bit. He still had his dry sense of humor and his love of life. The reunion reminded me how much I had missed him. The wives, as a group, finally met in person for the first time and they could see why Martin was such a loved part of our trio.
Last year the group had another reunion on a cruise in the Caribbean. Martin had lost a little more hair but his joy of life and the love of his family were always evident. One day while the group had gone on a sight seeing venture, Martin and I found ourselves a little English pub to have a beer. Martin grabbed a big comfortable leather chair, sat down with a cold beer in his hand. With the warm Caribbean breeze blowing through his sparse hair he said to me “it doesn’t get any better than this”.
As a group we made plans to get together in the South Seas next year but sadly life was taken from him much too early.
Schultzy, one day, on the other side, I dearly hope to again sit down in a pub and have another cold beer with you. Goodbye troop mate.
Valda and I are devastated by Martin’s passing and our love and prayers go out to Marie and her family during such a sad time in their lives

We are truly sorry and shocked on learning of Martin’s passing. I found Martin to be such a pleasure to work with. His enthusiasm rubbed off on us all when we were together in Morse. Both Martin and Marie were a joy to be around and their friendship will always be appreciated. We will always cherish the memories.
