Dear Bertha and family, I am so saddened to hear of John’s passing. When I came to Hillmond to teach, he was so kind and helpful to me. He always had a smile or a joke to lighten the day. He held himself to high standards and his students as well. He was a gentleman and one of my all-time favourite colleagues. We’d often swap stories as his daughters taught my daughters dance. My sincere condolences to your family. I know how immensely proud he was of his family and you will have endless cherished memories.

Dear Berti and family,
I am so sorry to hear of John's death. He was such an inspirational co-worker at Hillmond School. He dedicated so much energy teaching his classes and working so many outside hours with extra-curricular activities. I remember how smoothly the elementary track meets would go with John and Dave (Berg) organizing them.
He was so proud of his children and sometimes we, at school, would get to experience their amazing talents--musically and athletically- when they performed at assemblies.
He fought long for life and the one comforting thought is that he is not suffering any more. I am so sorry for your loss.

I enjoyed talking to John in church that day about his earlier life as a boy when he knew my Uncles, the Gartner’s. They were neighbors on the farm and played ball and did what boys do. He was friends with the younger, “boys “, as there were 17 siblings in the family. What can I say good Catholic Germans, loved them all.
He was so proud of of all his children and loved his family.
