Obituary of Lena Kern

BIOGRAPHY KERN ~ Lena Kern passed away peacefully in the Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Lena was predeceased by her parents, four brothers and two sisters, and her husband John. She is survived by her one sister in Vancouver. She will be sadly missed by her children, Darlene Shuya of Red Deer, Margaret Kern of Red Deer, Don and Carol Kern of Danville, California; four grandchildren; Robert (Sandra) Shuya of El Paso, TX, Dale (Melanie) Shuya of Airdrie, Alberta and Kate and Jessica Kern of Danville, California; four great grandchildren; Mason, Justin and Alyson Shuya of El Paso, TX and Jake Shuya of Airdrie, Alberta as well as various nieces and nephews. The prayer service was conducted from the McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 5:00 P.M. with Father Jan Sobkowicz officiating. The mass of Christian burial was conducted from the St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Lloydminster, Alberta on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Jan Sobkowicz officiating. Leader of song was Marlene Risling accompanied on the organ by Donna Weston while Mel Risling played the trumpet. The honorary pallbearers was Everyone In Attendance. The active pallbearers were Don Kern, Dale Shuya, Robert Shuya, Chris Benoit, Brian Nicodemus and Calvin Nicodemus. Interment was held in the Lloydminster City Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. CARD OF THANKS Thank you to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff at the Lloydminster Hospital and to the ambulance attendants. Thanks especially to Dr. Rogers for the care of Mom over the years, and to the Home Care Nurses who cared for Mom in her home and at Points West. Thank you to Father Jan Sobkowicz and Brother Carlos for officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial, to Marlene and Mel Risling and Donna Weston for the music and to the CWL for the Honor Guard and lunch served. Thank you to Darlene Shuya for reading the eulogy at the Prayer Service. Thank you to Points West for the wonderful care given over the past year. Thank you all for cards and flowers and the sympathy and support given. We would especially like to thank her many friends who offered rides to different activities over the years.
