Obituary of Dorothy Erickson

Dorothy Margaret Erickson (nee Gingell) passed away at St. Walburg Health Complex, St. Walburg, Saskatchewan on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Dorothy was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan to Alice Elizabeth Sherry and Arthur Jacob Gingell on September 24, 1924. The family moved from Medicine Hat to Snowden, Saskatchewan in 1929. She attended school at Bedard. Many hard working hours and fun times were had at the farm with her siblings. She Married George Erickson on March 11, 1943. Together they had 4 children, Al, George, Vern and Alice. After her children were raised she worked many years at the Auxiliary Hospital with her sister, Lillian. She also worked for her son, Al, in his plumbing shop and her son, Vern, caretaking his apartments. She never had idle hands. In her spare time she crochet and knitted making hundreds of slippers, mitts, toques, afghans, baby sweaters and adult sweaters. She passed this talent onto her daughter, Alice and you would see them at craft fairs together, selling. Accompanied by her travel partner and sister, Lillian, the pair made their way to the North Pole, Florida, Arizona, Montana and camped all over Alberta and Saskatchewan (bottle picking along the way). Dorothy is survived by her children, Al & Laurel Erickson, George Erickson & partner Deb Roberts, Vern & Sandra Erickson and Alice & Archie Peterson. She also leaves to mourn 10 Grandchildren; 24 Great Grandchildren; 29 Great Great Grandchildren; her siblings, brother Al & Bea, sisters, Lillian and Clara; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Lloyd, Lester, Alfred, Clarence and Harold; and daughter-in-law, Carol. The funeral service for Dorothy will be conducted from the McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
