Please share a memory of Esther to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Esther Arthur Tyrie passed away at the Jubilee Home, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the age of 93 years.
Esther was born on June 3, 1921 in Dumbarton, Scotland to John & Esther Milliken. She had many fond memories of her childhood in Scotland, and spent a lot of time with her sister. Esther started school when she was five years old. In 1936, as a young girl out of school, Esther took the trade of a French Polisher, polishing furniture on ships for William Denny Bros. Shipyard and in three years became a first class French Polisher. During World War II, she was transferred to the Electric Welding Bay and was given a course in welding. Esther was courted by Charlie during these years. In February 1944, Esther married Regina Rifleman Charles Tyrie and February 1946 she came to Canada settling in Lloydminster, Alberta. Esther set herself on providing a good home for herself and Charlie. Their union produced one child; in August 1945 they had a daughter, which they named Esther. In 1963 Esther started working for a dentist who trained her to be his dental assistant, she worked for him for eleven years. Between work, home and meeting young Esther’s needs there wasn’t a whole lot of time left. Yet Esther wanted to give back to the community that was their home. She spent endless hours working in a church group developing a stronger community and canvassing diligently for the Red Cross. Charles passed away in 1996, and in 2000 Esther moved into the Pioneer Lodge, she was there until April 2015 when she moved into the Jubilee Home. Esther’s life was not easy; she worked hard to provide a better quality of life for others and she did it selflessly and with great passion. Her hard work and dedication to family, community and country was recognized when she was nominated for the Diamond Jubilee Medal from Queen Elizabeth II.
Donations in memory of Esther may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
