Obituary of Thelma McColm

MCCOLM, Thelma Celia (nee Hougen) I lost my best, my dearest friend, Dear Mom when I lost you. Thelma McColm passed away at the Lloydminster Hospital, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on Thursday, July 17th, at the age of 87 years. Thelma was a loving mother, wonderful grand and great-grand mother, and dear friend who touched everyone with her infectious zest for life, adventure and shenanigans. She was born on November 14th, 1926. Thelma was predeceased by her dear husband of 59 years, Thomas McColm, her parents Melvin and Essie Hougen, and all but 2 of her siblings. Thelma leaves to mourn her passing: sons Robert, Alan, William and James; twenty-three grandchildren; myriad of great-grandchildren; brother Mel Hougen and sister Freda Hermanson; and multitudinous dear friends. The funeral service for Thelma took place at McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta, on July 24th, 2014 at 1:00pm with Rev. Paul DuVal officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Mel Hougen and Walter Hermanson. The active pallbearers were Robert and Kevin McColm, Alan and Jared McColm, William and William Jr. McColm, James and Tom Jr. McColm. Interment was held in the Maidstone Cemetery in Maidstone, Saskatchewan. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd, of Lloydminster, Alberta, were entrusted with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Communities in Bloom. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Hemstock, where Thelma resided for 13 years, as well as the nurses and doctors at Lloydminster Hospital who cared for Thelma in her final months. A special thank you also to Rev. Paul DuVal, the musicians at the service, and for the staff at McCaw Funeral Service for their excellent work in attending to Thelma's service and burial wishes.
