Obituary of David Wooff

David Stanley Wooff of Turtleford, Saskatchewan passed away at the Riverside Health Complex in Turtleford, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the age of 76 years. David was born on the family farm, to Robert and Elin Wooff, who predeceased him in 1992 and 1993 respectively. He survived younger sister Marilyn (2011) and older brother Spencer (2012). David grew up in this area, attending Grades 1-7 at Warnock, Grade 8 at Emmaville and Grades 9-12 at Spruce Lake. From 1955-1959 David studied in the College of Agriculture at the U of S, earning his B.S.A. He worked briefly for the Provincial Government of Manitoba as an Assistant Agriculture Representative. Fall 1960 found David in Calgary working as a veterinarian pharmaceutical rep covering Southern Alberta and SW Saskatchewan. July 1961 landed him back at the U of S for a summer session of studying French. From 1961-1963 David was enrolled full time as a law student at the U of S. He married Trudy Coumbs December 23, 1961. Upon obtaining his law degree, he articled and practiced General Law with a firm in Saskatoon over the next 11 years. This period was also marked by the birth of his 3 children. 1974 brought David, with his family, back to this community to take over the family farm. Farming brought him closer to and fueled his passion of being near nature. He also continued to practice law. He was an active member of the community, holding positions on the River Junction Board, the local and district School Boards, the local Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Tadra and the Turtleford Housing Authority. David took his last crop off in fall 1998, but continued the spring plant and harvesting for his cousin, Wayne Sibley, for an additional 4.5 years. He retired from his law practice in 2003 and soon found himself restless. Before settling into full retirement he took on the role of administrator for the Village of Mervin for a 4.5 year period. August 2009 saw David move off the farm into his new home in Turtleford. David is survived by his children Linda (Ken), Paul (Jennifer) and Lisa (Mark), his grandchildren Blair (Jessica), Brandon, Emily and Beth, his children's mother, Trudy Wooff, his older brother Roger (Louise) and numerous nieces and nephews. Those that have known David will miss his quick wit and ability to tell a great joke! We will miss our Dad. Donations in memory of David Wooff may be made to the Riverside Health Complex.
