Obituary of Gordon Leighton

LEIGHTON ~ Gordon James Leighton passed away in Lamont, Alberta on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the age of 79 years. Gordon will be sadly missed by: his step-children, Macy Peterson and Nora Gillmore, Louella and Gerald Schneider, Lois Peterson and Clem Organ, Roxana and Brian Wright, Alana Wright and Leonard Touchette; one brother, Doug and Nola Leighton; one brother-in-law, Mike Hamernyk; fourteen step-grandchildren as well as numerous step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews The funeral service was conducted from the Kitscoty Community Hall on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. with Reverend Bob Aldrich officiating. The eulogy was given by Doug Leighton. The hymns sung were "Softly & Tenderly," "The Church In The Wildwood" and "In The Sweet By and By." The Kitscoty Community Choir were in Attendance. The organist was John Scott. The Active Pallbearers were: Cindy Kostyshyn, Clem Organ, Kevin Roland, Mike Hamernyk, Brad Straty and Al Hemingway. Interment followed in the Kitscoty Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. Card of Thanks: The family of the late Gordon Leighton would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of the Pioneer Lodge and the Lamont Health Centre for their excellent care of Gordon during his last few months of ailing health. We also wish to thank Reverend Bob Aldrich for conducting the service, Doug Leighton for delivering the eulogy, John Scott and the Kitscoty Community Choir for their ministry of music, the Pallbearers, The Royal Canadian Legion members for their contribution and McCaw Funeral Service for their kind assistance.
