Obituary of Beulah McIntosh

McINTOSH~ Beulah Ruby McIntosh passed away in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the age of 94 years. Beulah will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Syd McIntosh of Marsden and Susan Walker of Winnipeg; two grandchildren, Tracy Kurtz and Ashley McIntosh; four great grandchildren, Levi McIntosh, Kailey Kurtz, Tyra McIntosh and Kolby Kurtz A Memorial Service was conducted from The McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. with Mel Letkeman officiating. Special Music "The Old Rugged Cross" and "This Is Not Goodbye" was played at the service. A Private Family Interment will be held at a later date. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster, Alberta administered the funeral arrangements. Card of Thanks - The family would like to take this time to thank the staff at the Jubilee Home for the wonderful care Beulah received while she was there, The Lloydminster Hospital, staff and ambulances services for the great care they gave her while we were in Lloydminster. The staff at the Royal University Hospital, your understanding and patiences were wonderful. Thank you to everyone who left messages on McCaw website, telephone calls, flowers, food and visits this has all not gone unnoticed. Thank to Mel Letkeman for performing the service at the chapel in Lloydminster as well as at the burial. Syd, Diane Susan Tracey, Kailey, Kolby Ashley, Levi, Tyra Eulogy Good Evening This evening we are her to celebrate the life of Beulah Ruby McIntosh. She lived to be a very great age of 94 years old. Beulah was predeceased by her father George in 1970, husband Ken in 1983, her mother Elizabeth in 1985, her brother Ralph in 1994 and her daughter in law Bonnie in 1999. Grandma leaves to mourn her son Syd and his friend Diane of Marsden, SK, her daughter Susan Walker of Winnipeg, MB, her granddaughter Tracy and her two children Kailey and Kolby, her grandson Ashley and his two children Levi & Tyra. Grandma was born in Badger, Minnesota on November 23, 1917 to the proud parents of George & Elizabeth Jones. Grandma was an avid hairdresser and loved every minute of it. All the kids remember Grandma quite frequently touching there hair or making some comment about how if she did there hair it would never look like that. Grandma married Grandpa Ken on March 9, 1942 in Winnipeg. They were only married for 6 months and Grandpa Ken was enlisted to fight in the war for the next four years. Grandma then moved back to Marsden where she worked at the Marsden Coop. When Grandpa Ken returned from war Grandma then returned back to Winnipeg. Grandma also worked at the Marsden Credit Union for two years. Grandma would always remind me of this. She use to always say I don't know why there are so many people working there because when she ran the Credit Union she did it all on her own. They decided in 1949 to make a move to Marsden and start the family business. Syd recalls his Mom always having to go for the mail everyday but it always took her an hour because she always had to stop at Ethel Strome's for her daily tea. The family business was a very important part of Grandmas life and she loved every minute of it. Grandpa & Grandma lived at the acerage and in the early 1970's moved into town and made this there new home. Syd & Bonnie moved into there old house and this is where Ashley and his two children currently live today. After Grandpa passed away Grandma still continued to live in there residence in Marsden until 2004 when I decided it was time to move back home. This is home for me and my two children still call this home. Grandma was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Wellness Clinic at the Seniors centre. She also didn't miss one night of Whist at the Senior Centre where she always enjoyed a good game of cards and a cup of tea. Grandma moved into the Manor in Marsden in 2004 and lived there until 2007. She continued to be active and live on her own with no assistance from anyone. She received volunteer of the year award in 2004 for her volunteering benefits for the community. In 2007 Grandma decided that it was maybe time to move to Lloydminster to the Pioneer Lodge. After a few months of being on the waiting list she was accepted as a new tenant. She enjoyed her time at the lodge, taking part in the daily and evening activities. Ashley & I recall stopping into visit with GG and her never being in her room, she was always out enjoying the festivities. Grandma lived at the Pioneer Home until 2011 when the family decided to move her to the Jubilee Home. There to she always enjoyed the live entertainment or whatever the home had going on. Aunty Susan recalls coming home from Winnipeg for visits and always spending as much time with her as she could. Aunty Susan would take her for drives in my volkswagon bettle which she loved. They would go out to the pit, down to the shop, a visit at the cemetery and maybe even a few shopping trips. Mom's special stop was at A & W so she could enjoy her teen burger for lunch. Some of Beulah's like were dogs, horses and any type of cattle. She had a very special place in her heart for the family dog Cassie. She loved to spoil the dog with left over table scraps or candy. The day before Beulah passed away the dog became very ill, and Dad believes that the dog knew the something was happening to Beulah. Isn't it funny how some of the stuff works. Grandma always told Ashley that whenever he figured she shouldn't drive anymore that he should just tell her. Well as we all know Grandma that was easier said than done. She always promised she would just always drive around town, but she would always manage to make a trip out to the cemetary or a quick trip to the shop. Susan recalls her and Syd growing up with homemade clothes and that Mom Spent hours fixing and making wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and grad dresses. She did it all. I recall lot of stories about Grandma, times like when she would come out to the shop and she would always leave her car in neutral, she would get out and visit at the shop and pretty soon there Grandma's car would go across the parking lot. She never ever put her car in neutral, and she would always say that darn car. Or the time when she broke the drivers mirror off of her car and she has no idea how she did it. I'm thinking that I have inherited some of her driving techniques. Dented garage doors and fenders seen to run in the family. Levi recalls the times when they would leave the Lodge and GG would always try to run up behind him and try and kick him in the butt. As they would be walking out of the Lodge GG would always wish everyone else with walkers would hurry up. Kailey recalls GG always commenting on her braids. She would always say to Kailey you better get those out of your hair I was a hairdresser and those things are wrecking your hair folicials. Tyra recalls when looking at GG's wall calendar of events at the Lodge she wanted GG to play Wii, the Lodge have every Tuesday as "Wii" night and Tyra thought that would be great if GG would do that. What a better way then to have a GG be able to play Wii. Although GG had no clue what Tyra was talking about she would just smile and keep rocking in her chair and say "I'm to old to do that" Kolby had special times with GG as well whenever we would go to visit he would always have to play with one specific stuffed singing bear that Grandma had on her bed, although it annoyed all of us GG still continued to smile through it. Ashley recalls the times when Grandma and some of her friends would always come out to the pit for a visit. She would bring canned diet coke wrapped in newspaper so it would stay cold and always cookies for a treat. Christmas is now only 5 months away and it just won't be the same without you. We will always keep up with your family tradition of having spare ribs and baked oysters on Christmas Eve. And yes Grandma we will remember that we need to call Aunty Susan before 8 and not a minute later. Beulah enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. No matter what she would always have a drawer of candy The last week of Grandma's life was very trying of her. Her deminsia had progressively gotten worse and she had a very long road ahead of her. After suffering from two massive heart attacks, a broken hip Grandma never lost her spunk. I recall the nurses saying to me Wow your Grandma has a lot of spunk and I would say you haven't seen nothing yet. While Grandma was in hospital I asked her several times if she had any pain and she would always say…uumm nope and trust me even if she did she wouldn't tell you anyways. In the end Grandma did go for surgery on your hip and she amazed us just one more time. A few days before Grandma's passing she development pnemonia and this was want got the best of her. She was a strong and determined lady and would never give up a fight. Grandma, we all loved you very much and we will never forget you.
