I was Lucella's goddaughter from Chicago. She played softball with my mother back in the 40's June Hardy/Borowy. My mother passed last year June 21, 2013. I called Lu to give her the news, and we chatted, then she told me that she loved me and we would talk again later. I never did get to speak to her again, not knowing she had passed 4 days later. When I found out I felt as if I had lost 2 mothers in a week's time. I wish that I could have been around her more - we mostly wrote and when her handwriting deteriorated we started to call. God bless her she never, ever forgot my birthday and always made contact. She was such a wonderful woman, and I will miss her as much as I miss my own mother. I can only hope that they met again in heaven. God bless you and your family!

Lucella was such a wonderful person. I'm an associate member and I always looked forward to seeing her at the reunions.I helped to run the reunion in Detroit and Lucella and Betty two of the ladies who were interviewed by the Canadian press. One of our side trips was a dinner cruise on the Detroit River. I joked with Lucella and Betty that if they stood on this side of the boat they could look at Canada. Last year in San Diego I had the chance to talk to her about her playing days in the Chicago League. We will all sure miss her and her great smile. She was so excited about the Women's World Baseball Cup coming to Edmonton this summer I hope they have a little moment of silence for her at the tournament.

Dear Vi, Richie & Families My sincere sympathy to all , what a great lady she was. We came to Lloydminster 47 years ago & Lu was the one that welcomed us to St. Anthony's & invited me to the C.W.L gathering & later to the many meetings for the formation of parish council. Her friendly nature & interest was always present. May she rest in peace. We will miss her & remember her kindnesses

R.I.P. Aunt Lu. We will all miss you so much, especially at the Ross Family Reunions that you loved to attend over many years. We loved hearing all the wonderful stories you passed on about your baseball days and all the great adventures that led you to. We know you were looking forward to the reunion this coming August and we will all raise our classes in a toast to you and how much you meant to all of us. Cheers!

Sorry I can't attend the service for Auntie Lu, my condolences to all the family and friends. I still have the report I did on Auntie Lucy and the American Girls Baseball League for a Sport History Class in university and it will be cherished always.

I was very sad to hear that Lucella had passed away. I am an associate member of the AAGPBL. I always enjoyed seeing Lucella and Betty arrive at the reunions. We would always make sure that the three of us had a picture taken together at each one and we'd laugh about it. She always seemed so happy which made me want to be around her all the more. Last year in San Diego, we honored her and the other players from 1943 that attended. I'm so glad we did. She was a true pioneer and truly deserved the recognition. I will miss her at this year's reunion in Syracuse, NY. I will always remember her as a dear, wonderful friend.

My condolances to all of Lucella's family. What a great lady. The world is a better place for having had her with us. I loved to hear her speak of her baseball days and will always treasure my autographed baseball card that she gave to me. She will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. Aunty Lucella was a wonderful lady, that had a long marvelous life. She loved sports, especially baseball, and had an active life that still included going to exercise class at 91. Her memory was still very sharp and she didn't miss a beat in a conversation. In planning a 90th birthday for my mom (Eileen Buchanan), Lucella and I had talked quite a few times over the last week. I really enjoyed my conversations with her, and we shared a few good laughs. I will miss her so much and am very sad at her passing, but I am so thankful for our great talks, and that I got to tell her how much I loved her. Wishing you God's peace Aunty Lucella, Love Jean
