Please share a memory of Winnifred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth Poston KINLOCH Born Winifred Ruth POSTON, on January 28th, 1916, At Whitefish Lake in southern Alberta. Parents Charlie POSTON and Julia LORER predeceased Ruth in 1921 and 1920, leaving her and eight siblings orphans. Ruth was taken in by Rev. Austin G. and Jane McKITRICK of Edmonton, in November of 1921. As there was already a child in the family named Winifred, Ruth went by the name of Ruth Poston McKITRICK, but was more commonly and affectionately known as “Shorty”. Ruth had four sisters and a brother in this family. Ruth married James Heatlie KINLOCH, in January 1939, and lived in Toronto during the war years, where daughter Maureen was born in 1941. Following the war the family moved to Wetaskiwin, Alberta, where Jim worked with Calgary Power Ltd, until his death in 1975. Ruth for the most part was a mother and homemaker, and took occasional work as a store clerk. She was active as a Sunday school teacher and member of the United Church Women, and enjoyed curling, golf, and square dancing. In 1957, son Brian was adopted. Ruth took training and worked as a travel agent as Brian grew older and she continued in this after Jim’s death. Ruth was active in the Wayside Chapel Church, and volunteer work, including the “Twilighters” a support group and club for visually impaired. In 2003 following her daughters death Ruth moved to Lloydminster to be close to Brian and his wife Wendy. Ruth passed away on Christmas Day to join both sets of her parents and all of her siblings. She is survived by a son Brian and wife Wendy KINLOCH, a son-in-law Arthur SHANTZ of Wetaskiwin, grand children; Lori WATAMANIUK of Dayton, Ohio, Mark SHANTZ of Wetaskiwin, Stacey KINLOCH of Lloydminster, and Gregory KINLOCH of Yellowknife, four great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Ruth will be missed for her love of family and her joy of life and friends. The family extends it’s thanks to the staff and care givers of the Pioneer Lodge, Jubilee Home and the Dr Cooke Extended Care for their kindness and care of Ruth.
