Obituary of George Orr
Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Oliver Orr passed away December 18, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. George was the first child of four born to Wallace & Jean Orr. He was born in Unity on June 9, 1931. The Orr family farmed in the Neilburg area through the years. Although he retired from
farming in 2002, he continued to live on the home quarter until his health failed in 2009. Other than one winter in the early 50's, when he went to Ontario, working for Diamond Fittings and then General Motors in Oshawa, - he and his Dad farmed until his Dad retired. In 1953 George married Lileth Martyniuk and together raised four children, Ken, Bob, Deb & Pat. George enjoyed hunting, golfing & curling in his leisure time. Lileth passed away in 1997, after which George learned, with help from Deb, to cook, clean and take care of the house by himself. After retiring in 2002 he went on an Alaska Bus Tour where he met Jean. They shared many interests, were both alone and became companions. For the next seven years they enjoyed travel, sharing time together at the farm, at her home or at Turtle Lake. George was always interested in the seeding, rain or "lack of", the daily weather and he hated the wind. He followed farming with
Grant, Deb & Garrett as they farmed all around him. Also, he enjoyed the visits from Dean & Richard where they shared news of crops & yields at harvest over a morning coffee. George was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. Although it was under control for some time, it took its toll and his condition worsened in January 2009. In September 2009 after a three week hospital stay he became a resident of Pioneer Lodge where he adapted better than we'd hoped. His needs were
cared for and he remained there until his final hospital stay when he left us on December 18.
He leaves to mourn his four children and their families: Ken (Lauri), Eden (Rob), Tyson;
Bob (Bev), Dustin (Alicia) Lylee & Drew, Ashlee (Marko); Deb (Grant) Wynter, Garrett & Brenna; Pat, Rachelle & Adria; companion Jean Sherman and her children Kim, Chris, Diane, Donna, Denise and their families; two sisters, Irene (Craig) Woods, Shirley Nelson; sisters-in-law Donna Orr, Bernice Landreth, Shirley Moore & Diane Davis; brother-in-law Ed (Vi) Martyniuk; uncles, Charles (Alice) Orr, Gordon (Mary) Watt, Don (Norma) Watt; aunts, Vada Miller, Dulcie Mack; many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Wallace & Jean, his wife Lileth & brother Charlie.
Thank you to all friends, neighbors and family who visited, sent cards and inquired of his health. Special thanks to Dean Walde who made Georges' last weeks at the farm so much easier with the loan of his golf cart. He appreciated the mobility. Thank you to Dr. Govender for his care over the years, the management & staff of Pioneer Lodge, home care workers, nurses & staff
on 3rd Floor, and nurses in the chemo unit at Lloydminster Hospital. Thank you to McCaw Funeral Service for their compassion and understanding.
The graveside service, officiated by Rev. Harold Martin, was held Wednesday, December 23. With family present, George was laid to rest beside his wife Lileth in Wycollar Cemetery. With George, were the ashes of his beloved pet & companion "Misty".
May he rest in peace.
