Obituary of John Palmer

PALMER: John Stanley “Stan” Palmer of the Marsden District passed away on Friday, December 10, 2004 at the age of 58 years. He was born on November 23, 1946 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Stan had a love of nature, the land, animals and open spaced. He was involved with livestock at an early age - thru 4-H and the family purebred Herefords. He was one of the pioneers of the Simmental Breed in Canada. He had a lifelong love of his cows. Stan had a strong work ethic, and anything worth doing - was well done. During the last 4 or 5 years Stan developed a passionate interest in Team Penning and was involved in both the Saskatchewan and Alberta penning circles. He participated in events in both provinces and he enjoyed any opportunity to ride, visit and compete within the penning arena. Stanley is survived by his wife Dianne; his children: Jay, Jordan, Jonathan and Margo; one sister: Ruth and her husband Lorne Willard as well as numerous other relatives. The funeral service for Stan Palmer was conducted from the Marsden Community Hall on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ted Haas officiating. The eulogy was given by Larry Bell with tributes by Frank Mapletoft and Ruth Purdy. The Community Choir sang a processional: “Prayer of St. Francis,” and “On Eagle’s Wings,” with the hymn “Amazing Grace,” accompanied on the organ by Marci Park. The honorary pallbearers were: Terry Tweten, John Rekimowich, Lyle Noble, Rob Wiebe, Brian Palmer, Sydney Palmer, Alex Palmer, Ted Hassall, Derrill Proctor, Dennis Bendall and Wesley Graham. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster administered the funeral arrangements. Card of Thanks The family of Stanley Palmer wishes to thank all friends and neighbors and relatives for their kindness and support during this time of loss. We thank all those who gave flowers, sent cards, visited and brought food to the house, or made charitable contributions. In particular the family would like to thank Wesley and Kay Graham, Dennis and Marilyn Bendall, and Stuart Scott for all their help with the livestock and horses, Larry Bell for the touching eulogy, Frank Mapletoft and Ruth Purdy for their eloquent tributes, all of the honorary pallbearers, Pastor Ted Haas for officiating the service, organist Marci Park, The Community Choir, and the United Church Ladies for preparing lunch at the service.
