THOMPSON: Harry Ernest Thompson passed away in the Lloydminster Hospital on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the age of 65 years.
Harry was born to Frederick and Laura Thompson on September 10, 1940. He was raised in Hillmond, Saskatchewan along with older sister Patricia and younger brothers Ronald and Darrel. He attended Hillmond School from 1946-1955. Harry married Ethel Lindsay October 1963, from this marriage came Janet, Kent, Kirk and Craig.
Harry only rode a horse to school for a short time. His lack of love for the horses encouraged his hard work in cutting and selling firewood to earn money to buy a bike. Even though he didnt care for horseback riding he did enjoy many other sports.
Harry always loved a good hockey game with the guys or a game of ball at school. He curled through the winter and hunted in the seasons, enjoying the company that came along with it. A good card game among family and friends was always a good source of entertainment.
Farming was always a way of life to Harry even after a close call with a PTO that left a scar on his ankle for life. He started out farming in the 1950's and bought his first quarter of land from Corbin Myers.
His brothers said that if it was not for Harrys mechanical abilities the Thompson machinery would not have kept running. Harrys love for John Deere tractors started right from a very young age when the hired many Pete Moe let Harry drive the Model D on his own. He made it into the yard but using the hand clutch was a bit of a challenge.
Harry worked off the farm as well. He worked for the RM of Britannia running a grader and he also ran the grader for the RM road crew. This October Harry got the itch to run the grader again and took it over to Kirks to level out the barnyard. Harry worked at the Hillmond Arena as well, hired as the caretaker and just volunteer his time putting in the ice for the kids.
Harry enjoyed his family. There are a lot of fond memories of the lake, fishing, swimming and just being at home working together on the farm. Pat, Ronnie, and Darrel all remember Harry loving to tinker and build. He spent countless hours with his mechano set. Pat recalls Flurys coming to the farm for a couple of days and Harry and Cyril creating their own snow blower. Darrel remembers Harry as a young man working all day out in the fields driving a tractor only to come home and play with him and his tractors after supper.
It was when Harry moved to his home in Hillmond that he really got to know his Grandchildren. All the Grandchildren grew to love their Grandpa as he teased them and played John Deere with them. He always looked forward to any gathering especially Birthdays and Christmas so he could see the excitement in the kids faces as they opened the toys and asked for his help in putting things together.
Harry is survived by his four children and eleven grandchildren. Janet and Greg Zielinski of Vermilion, children: Michelle, Scott and Andrea; Kent and Jana, children: Katelyn and Austin; Kirk and Heather, children: Michael and Luke; Craig and Daphne, children: Rylan, Regan, Rhetori & Rikea all of Hillmond, his mother Laura Thompson, one sister Pat and Erwin Dimmel of Lloydminster, two brothers Ron and Jennifer Thompson and Darrel and Lynda Thompson also of Hillmond as well as numerous other relatives.

The active pallbearers were Arnold Dimmel, Darrell Dimmel, Randy Dimmel, Matt Thompson, Ardel Olsen and Lionel McKenzie. Interment followed in the Lloydminster City Cemetery.
