I went to school with Ray and we were neighbours on the farm. I have always admired Ray for his strong will to live throughout the many years of extreme illness....Ethel you were always by his side and gave him the support and will to live. The joy he felt when his granddaughter was born was written in every bone in his body...the sheer joy of sharing time with her was most important. Ray had a strong strong sense of family and cherished every moment he was able to spend with them. Life is like a book that is given from Gods library. We have the opportunity to add or embellish some of the pages. But now the book is past due and God has recalled the book to his library. Rest in the knowledge you were part of the pages that created Ray's life and you will always remember the pages to which you contributed and know that Ray loved your additions. My memories of Ray are as a young boy playing baseball, running free, riding horses to school and seemingly being much older than I. Now the years seem insignificant and we are not really that much further apart. Learn from his will to live and knowledge of being with someone you loved as he loved you.

Wally and I were in Ireland when we got word of Ray's passing. Although he had struggled with his health for many years we were still not prepared for the news. He had proven over the years that he was not only a survivor but a person who could rise above his adversities and maintain his sense of humour Attending the same country school,I have known Ray for over 60 years and can attest to his kindness, humility, generosity and dedication to his family and friends. The large attendance at his funeral and the number of people giving tributes is an affirmation of the number of lives he touched in a personal and special way. Although this is a difficult time for his family may the the wonderful memories they have of their time with Ray help to sustain them. We are especially thinking about Kevin and Mark who are not able to be with their family during this difficult time.

It was during the weekend party for the 40th Wedding anniversary of Bill and Evelda that we finally got to meet Ray, Ethel and family. We really enjoyed getting to know them after years of stories and pictures. Ray was especially welcoming to us, the Easterners. He seemed a quiet, gentle man with an engaging smile and a grand sense of humour. We were shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. To Mark in Saudi Arabia, may you find comfort in special remembrances and kind words of friends and to our dear nephew and cousin Kevin Love, we extend a big family hug to you. Much Love, Aunt Eleanor and Uncle Harold Silk Cousin Steven and Raelynn, Wiarton, ON Cousin Patty Exeter, England

To The Harmels and Family, While I only had the pleasure of meeting the family a few years ago around the Christmas holiday along with Kevin Love, Ray's nephew, I remember Ray as a warm and welcoming individual. Despite his health concerns, he remained upbeat and had a wonderful sense of humor. I am sure that Ray will remain an inspiration to his family and others for life times to come.
