B I O G R A P H Y Mrs. Emelia Young was born to Adam Edward “Ed” and Anna Wirtz, November 8, 1928 in Torquay, Saskatchewan. She passed away in the Vermilion Hospital on June 23, 2006 at the age of 77 years. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Roy (Wanda) Young, Allan (Lynn) Young all of Marwayne, AB; two daughters: Linda (Harold) Tupper, also of Marwayne, AB, Shannon (Doug Olsen) Young of Neilburg, SK; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Irene Young of Edmonton, AB as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Emelia was predeceased by: her husband Robert Young in 1980, her parents Ed & Anna Wirtz in 1981 & 1987, her sisters: Mary Young and Rose Crowther in 1982 & 1998, seven brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law. In 1932 at the age of 3 years, Emelia moved to Marwayne, Alberta with her parents and sisters, Rose and Mary. To support his family, Ed Wirtz built a garage in 1934, set up his own business, and was a mechanic there for many years. Emelia took all of her schooling in Marwayne, and worked some evenings and weekends, as a bookkeeper at her father’s garage. October 21, 1947 she and Robert Young were married in the United Church in Lloydminster, Alberta. This union was blessed with four children. She described herself as a farmwife and mother, whose main blessings in life were her marriage, raising her children, their weddings as each went off on their life path. The arrivals of her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren. All the things she did along the way - curling, figure skating, dancing, gardening, driving school bus and even learning how to milk the cows, her knitting, crocheting and sewing, and taping music after the advent of cassette players, her many years of association with close friends through involvement in the local curling club and Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She lived on the home farm up until two weeks before her passing, still keeping up her yard and home. She passed away quietly in the Vermilion Hospital, with her family at her bedside. The funeral service for Emelia was conducted from the Marwayne Community Hall, Marwayne, Alberta on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Bob Aldrich officiating. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster administered the funeral arrangements. Card of Thanks The family wish to express their deep appreciation to all those who helped us in any way prior to, and after the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Emelia Young. To the Dewberry First Responders and the Lloyd Ambulance staff for their caring, efficient professionalism. To the staff of the Vermilion and U of A Hospitals for the medical care and consideration our Mother received and the wonderful way in which we were treated as a family, thank you. We wish to extend special thanks to family, friends and neighbors for their overwhelming gestures of support, sympathy and help. For all the phone calls, visits to our homes, help of all kinds, flowers, cards, gifts of food and baking, and the many donations made in memory of Mum. To Tillie Ferris and Barb Parkins for “going above and beyond,” when they provided a supper for all of us after the viewing, to Ken and Delores Nohnychuk for the wonderful supper they provided. To Shelly, who so willingly gave so much of her time to help with lawns and cleaning. To McCaw Funeral Service and Dale, for what they do so well, in such a kind and caring manner. Thank you. To Reverend Bob for the service, Joanne and Yvette for their ministry of music and song, and to Ron Tannas for so graciously giving the eulogy. To the Legion and Royal Purple Ladies for so ably taking care of the lunch, we appreciate all your efforts very much. To Donna Burke for her more than generous offer, and for the wonderful job she did on the flowers. To all the Grandchildren for being pallbearers, bless you. And to so many more who “were there” for all of us, in so many ways. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to all of you. Our thoughts and prayers are with Reverend Bob at this time ~ wishing you only the best in the days to come.
