Obituary of Lawrence Burgess

Lawrence Harold Burgess passed away in the Battleford’s Union Hospital, North Battleford, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the age of 71 years. Lawrence is survived by: his loving and caring wife Sharon Burgess of North Battleford; his sisters: Mildred and Ben Rookes, Dora and Bert Greening and Mary Burgess; his brothers: George Burgess, Maynard Burgess, Bob and Dorothy Burgess, Don and Carolina Burgess and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He is also survived by an extended family of brothers and sisters. Lawrence was predeceased by his mother and father, sister Gladys, brother Raymond, sister-in-law Shirley and brother-in-law Girvin. The funeral service for Lawrence was conducted from the Edam/Vawn Playdium, Edam, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Pat Ribey officiating. Special music “Let’s Turn Back the Years,” was played. Hymns sung were “Bringing In The Sheaves,” and “We Shall Go Out With Hope of Resurrection,” accompanied on the organ by Ruth McCaffrey. Active pallbearers were nephews: Randy Burgess, Derek Burgess, Daniel Burgess, Ferlin Burgess, Matt Burgess and Colin Greening. Interment followed in the Edam Cemetery. McCaw Funeral Service Ltd., of Lloydminster and Turtleford administered the funeral arrangements. Lawrence Harold Burgess was born July 26, 1934 at Edam. He was the fifth child of ten born to Bert and Cora Burgess. All his school days were spent at Daysville School. He lived at home helping his father farm, then getting land of his own and farming with his brother Maynard. He moved to Turtleford to live but kept farming. In January 2003 Lawrence married Sharon and retired to North Battleford. The times Lawrence was away from the farm, he was enjoying good times with his friends. He worked oil rigs in the North a couple of winters. Most of all he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends Keith Simkins and Keith Vallentgoed. Fishing and camping trips took him to Keeley, Canoe and Turtle Lakes. Another love of Lawrence’s was the rodeos. He went to Las Vegas a number of times for the rodeo finals. He enjoyed the chuckwagon races at Turtleford and St. Walburg Fairs, always placing his wagers with his friends. In Lawrence’s retirement he enjoyed his garden as he really liked new potatoes and garden tomatoes. He and Sharon travelled to the United States a number of times. They enjoyed visiting other casino’s as well. When Lawrence worked, he worked hard and when he played, he played hard. We will miss you, Suction.
